Sore throat and mouth

Some treatments for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the neck, can leave patients with a sore throat or mouth.

Often patients find that warm mouthwashes with bicarbonate of soda help. In addition, teeth should be cleaned, gently, after each meal to prevent infection in the sensitive areas. It may also be more comfortable to leave dentures out as much as possible. Also, in some cases, mouthwashes containing antibiotics are used to prevent fungus from growing in the mouth or throat.
